Prospect Hill Plantation Inn, Charlottesville, Virginia

An authentic 18th century plantation in the foothills of Central Virginia near Charlottesville, Prospect Hill has fostered generations of hospitality and fine cuisine in the tradition of another lover of Epicurean delights, Thomas Jefferson, who lived just a few miles up the road at Monticello. His insistence on striving for perfection in all of life's endeavors is still an inspiration for the owners of Prospect Hill today, especially in their efforts to make our guests feel at home.

The plantation today consists of the 1732 manor house with additions from the 1840s to the 1920s with seven original dependencies and former slave quarters dating from 1699 to 1850. The Sheehan family has renovated this historic manor and outbuildings into thirteen distinctive guest rooms, all with private baths and working fireplaces, and some with double Jacuzzi whirlpool baths. Every guest room and cottage is distinctive. By keeping each room's original function as intact as possible rooms vary from elegant to rustic but all lodging rooms are charming and romantic with queen size beds and modern amenities.

Our two candlelight dining rooms have been serving the finest culinary delights for more than 28 years to locals and overnight guests. Their package rates include wine and snacks in room on arrival, pre-dinner wine reception, the complete five course dinner, breakfast-in-bed (or in the dining room), and all staff gratuities. Guests dress for dinner as they would to visit friends. For some that means all dressed up and to others it means "dressy (or business) casual."

The grounds at Prospect Hill are magnificent with many of the original 1840 plantings of trees, including the rarest magnolia in the United States, forming an arboretum (tree garden). There is a lovely swimming pool with shade pavilion as well as many private places to relax on 50 acres of grounds, including a large Garden Pavilion for quiet reflection, the site of hundreds of wedding ceremonies at Prospect Hill. Prospect Hill has a reputation as the premier wedding and small meeting location in Virginia.
